Now we have preached to all that would read this blog that the best way to make money online is to get you a website. A website is a business front in cyber space. If you read this blog you will know where to find products to market if you don’t have any. This solves most of the problems of a business. The website is your store front, you know where to find products if you don’t have your own. The last thing you need is to market your online business in order to attract customers and make sales.
The marketing is the hardest part. You have to market and do your SEO if you want visitors. SEO means Search Engine Optimization and you can read about it on this blog. Backlinks are the heart of your SEO and play a major role in your website ranking in search engines. More backlinks = better rank = more traffic = more sales = more money.
Building backlinks is a pain. Over time your website will build natural backlinks by people finding your website and linking to you. Don’t wait and count on this getting you to the top. Unless you have the latest greatest new website out, your nature links will grow very slow. This is why you must take action. This is why the Free Traffic System is so important. They find a hosting plan that has good bandwidth and allows them a lot or unlimited domains. They set up tons of blogs.
The only difference is that they struggle to get content to all those blogs. You would have a huge advantage because all the blogs you put into the Free Traffic System are getting fresh content FREE. Not matter how you are trying to work at home, you must have exposure to succeed. You must advertise in order to get recognized. It doesn’t matter if you are promoting your website, a work from home program, CPA products, Clickbank products, your own products, or even trying to get people to sign up under you so you make even more money on your surveys. You must advertise to succeed.
This is where most people run short on the money. You need money to advertise, in order to make money. Now there is one way to get around this problem. There is a system that you can use for free. This system allows you to write articles and submit them. They take your articles and place them on other people’s blogs. The blog owners get content and you get exposure. You are allowed to place two links to where ever you like. Meaning you can put them going to your website, products, affiliate link, so on. This is your exposure.
Unlike article directories, this method is very successful. A lot of these blogs are visited by quite a few people. There is almost no other place on the web where you can have this kind of advertising power for free.
Here is another food for thought item. There are many people out there that put up tons of blogs and make good money off of using Google’s Adsense Advertisements on them. The problem in the past was coming up with new content for these blogs to keep visitors and search engines liking them. With this system you can enter you blogs and get free content all the time. This will keep the search engines happy and get you some visitors allowing you to make money off of the advertisements. All you have to do is find some cheap hosting, a domain name, and set up a WordPress blog. This is all very easy and can be done even by a newbie.
If you have a website, or site you are promoting, then you can set up some blogs in the same niche. Get the free content and ad the main site you are promoting to the blog roll. This will give you tons of links going to your main sites from your blogs getting you some search engine love and free traffic. To use this method, I would recommend getting Class C hosting. This is where your hosting plan gives you different IP address so all your sites and links are not coming from the same place. If you did this method you could promote your main sites with your same niche blogs, put adsense up on the blogs to make money, and also submit articles to go out on even more relevant blogs. This would give whatever site you were promoting quite a big presence that the search engines would notice.

Checking Your Competitors
You read and hear all the time that you should not target big niches or niches with tons of competitors, but how do you really know? The whole idea behind finding a work at home website niche that has plenty of searches and little competition is so you can make rankings in the search engines and get traffic. Most people go to Google and do a search for the keyword they are targeting and assume that the numbers brought by Google’s query are what they have to complete against. They then check the Google Keyword Tool and see how many searches are done on Google for this keyword and use those two numbers for deciding on their niche.
This is a dangerous game and can bite you down the road. How do you really know that you can rank on the first page for this keyword? Is it because there are not that many competitors? I prefer to know exactly what I am up against before I spend the time building and setting up a website targeting a specific niche. I always run the numbers and ask these questions.
How many backlinks and how much work will it take to be on the first page of Google?
What kind of visitors can I expect?
Is the amount of visitors going to be worth the amount of work it will take to get on the first page of Google?
These are questions that you need to be asking! I myself have made the mistake of not running the numbers. It is pretty disappointing to put up a website and never get visitors or make sales. Like I said above most of you understand finding a niche and understand how to find if this niche can be profitable, but you are not checking your competition realistically. Just because there are few competitors doesn’t mean that the competitors that are on the first page of Google don’t have tons of backlinks. Measuring the amount of backlinks your competitors have will give you an idea of how much work you will have to do to possible get on the first page.
Example: You find a keyword that gets a decent amount of searches every month. You find a product that you can create a website around that fits this keyword. You search the keyword in Google and go off of the query results it brings back, leaving you thinking that there is not that much competition and that you can make first page. Your numbers tell you that you won’t retire off of the money you will make, but if you make first page you will make a decent amount of money every month.
This is figuring that 1 in 100 visitors will buy the product or at 1%.
The problem is that you didn’t check and see how fierce you limited competition is. You see other people have found this niche and set up websites. They have had their websites up for over a year accumulating thousands of backlinks. Had you checked this you would have known that in order to make the first page of Google you will have to beat the lowest two sites on the first page, which both have at least 8000 backlinks. For you to get in the top 3 on the first page of Google for this keyword you would have to have around 10,000 backlinks which is what the top three websites are showing. To get this amount of backlinks takes a great deal of time and work. Realistically to get 10,000 backlinks you would have to work your tale off for over 6 months. Now this depends on the niche, but generally backlinks are hard to come by. You also have to realize that while you are playing catch up, your competitors are accumulating even more backlinks.
So if you are a one man or woman operation, this site is going to take all your time in order to see organic traffic. Then the question has to be asked, is it really worth the effort? Meaning are you going to be able to catch you competitors and are you going to make enough money to make up for all the time spent and all the money spent getting this kind of massive backlinks?
These are things that can kill your online work from home efforts. What is the point of putting up a website if no-one will come and see it? You must know exactly how much effort it will take to rank on the first page of Google if you are going to make your money on organic traffic and most people starting off have to hope for organic traffic, because they can’t afford advertising for traffic.
So now you understand how important this is, you need a solution. The easiest way to check how many backlinks your competitors have is by going to Yahoo’s http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com This tool will allow you to check any website’s total backlinks count giving you an idea of what you will need to compete. You can also go through the backlinks manually and check and see where they are coming from.
Example: You might see that the #1 result has 9000 backlinks and the #2 has 12,000.
This tells you that your top competitors are pretty fierce but you need to dissect this even more. You need to know what extensions their backlinks are coming from. Meaning, .com, .net, .org, .edu, .gov and so on. The #1 site could have quit a few .edu backlinks which could explain why it is ranking better with less links. Now like I said you can go through each individual link from Yahoo siteexplore, which takes forever when a site has 10,000 backlinks, or you can use a better tool for dissection like SeoElite and get the total from Yahoo. SeoElite won’t tell you the total number of backlinks accurately, but it will tell you the breakdown and trace .edu and .gov backlinks. This is important in understanding why this competitor is ranking so well and what you will have to do to beat that website in the rankings.
Appling this method will give you an edge and keep you from entering niches that have fierce competition. Now I am not saying stay completely away from fierce competition. I am saying that you need to run the numbers and be realistic about what it will take to get to the first page and top search engine results. By knowing this you can set your budget and time and see if this will be worth the effort to get there!
PPC (Pay-Per-Click)
Traffic is the life blood of any online business. I have given you a free eBook and backlink information that will help your SEO (Search Engine Optimization), but as I said in the article HERE, SEO takes time. So how can you get visitors to your Website, Squidoo Page, products, services, blog and so on. There is an answer, but it is a venture that requires money and very careful planning.
PPC is the search engine’s solution to this problem you have and they make billions providing this solution. You can sign up for an account and advertise on the search engines for traffic. Some already know this, some didn’t, but you see it everyday. Go to Google and do a search on work at home. Most of the time on the very top and to the right side are ads that appear. These are advertisements from people that have paid to be there. I am teaching you this knowing that most of you reading this have very little or no money to spend on this method. This is a big money making opportunity if done right and solves the big problem of traffic. I have put some coupons below for you to get started, but would rather you make money with the programs on the first page and then start reinvesting that money into an online business where you can incorporate this to make even more money. And another reason is I want to educate you before someone else has the opportunity to give you wrong info. Back to the subject. The reason it is called (pay-per-click) is because when someone clicks on one of these ads, the search engine charges the person advertising money. This can range from $.05 a click to $10.00 a click and higher.
It is really crazy how much people pay to be at the top of certain keyword results, and if you are reading this, there is no way you can afford $10 a click, or even $0.75 a click. That is why you must do two things if this is going to work. Now realize this is money and business. If you make a mistake, you will owe the search engine, so study this area hard if you plan on using PPC.
The first thing are keywords. This is a Google free keyword tool HERE. What you are trying to do is find keywords that are still searched, but that no one really bids on. Now the reality is you probably won’t find this, but you can always find some keywords you can afford. I will get into money and bids in a second, but I want you to realize that even if you could afford $10 a click, why spend that kind of money when there are other keywords that are a whole lot cheaper. The question you are asking yourself right now is why would anybody pay that price? The main reason these bids are that high, are because people, or companies want to be on the first page of the results for a major keyword. For example: “weight loss”. When your searching for something with a search engine, you normally don’t go past the second page, so these business pay a crap load to make sure they are on the first page or second at least. Now this same rule applies to you for the most part. There is no point in advertising, if you don’t get any visitors.
I am going to offer you another FREE eBook HERE that explains a lot more on keywords and PPC. It is set up around Google advertising (Adwords) and Yahoo Marketing. It is old and so some of the links once again might not work, and it is pushing a product about keywords, but the information is good and can help you. The keyword tool mentioned is also great if you can afford it, but you also have the link to the free Google tool above.
This information will help you understand how to find keywords that are affordable. Just to give an example for those that don’t want the eBook, if your site or the product you are trying to sell is about “weight loss” then you have to find other keywords you can afford, because you know you can’t compete on this keyword. So you search with the Google tool, or the tool in the eBook and find other keywords that don’t have crazy high bids, and that get searches. You test those keywords and eliminate the ones that are too high and keep the ones that give you traffic for a low price. I will explain why in the next paragraph.
No one told me this rule for a long time, or maybe I am just slow and should have figured it out myself before I spent a fortune. See when I found out about PPC, I went crazy and in doing so I spent a lot of money and didn’t sell crap. I don’t want you doing this. So here is the rule! If you are selling a product, service, affiliate product, affiliate service, whatever, YOU MUST FIGURE YOUR CONVERSION AT %1. Yes, you read this right. For every 100 people, you might make 1 sale. If it is higher great, but it could be also lower. No I am no crazy, this is a rule of thumb for PPC. It will depend on a lot of factors like, where you are selling, what you are selling, how much it has already been sold, but this is the rule you will follow until you test the product. So if you are paying $.50 a click and you get 100 visitors you just spent $50 dollars. Since your rule is %1, you better be able to make at least $50 on whatever you are selling or you just lost money! So look at your product or service you are selling, and look at the keyword. If the math doesn’t work out than scrap that keyword.
You might be in a niche where you can’t find a keyword that is profitable. Well, if that is the case then don’t use PPC. The idea is for you to make money and work at home, not lose money. After you are making money with the programs from the main page, or any of the methods we have given you, there might be a time when you want to get your website some exposure. That is fine, as long as you understand that this is throw away money. But don’t think for a second that I am full of it. Don’t think that you are going to be the exception to this rule above. Always figure your PPC this way until it shows you different. IF it doesn’t look profitable with any keyword no matter how hard you search, then set the site with SEO and find one that will be.
People make a lot of money using this type of advertising and this can make you a lot of money. Realize though, that it is very hard to do PPC, unless you are already have money to spend. I have read PPC eBooks that will tell you to spend whatever you have to get the top result even if it is $5.00 a click. That is dumb. If you show up in the top result, a competitor will bid the keyword higher and take a loss, just to put you out of the PPC game. I haven’t read the free eBook I am giving you above in a while. It might have some stuff on bidding, but just follow the %1 formula and that is all until the campaign shows you different. If it starts showing you less than %1 than figure off that and if you can’t be profitable, scrap the campaign or find a higher paying product in the same niche.
That is all I have. I know once again it is confusing and a ton of information, but I hope it helped you. Below I have listed the only Search Engines that I use. I was able to find coupons on Yahoo and Miva, but that is it. If I find more later I will post them in the Free Zone.
